The Battle Belongs to the Lord

The Battle Belongs to the LordEvery servant of Jesus Christ is at war! We’re commissioned by the Lord of heaven to be soldiers and ambassadors. We’re sent into the world to deliver a lifesaving message of salvation, and we fulfill that mission by the grace of God and the love of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, because of man’s sinful nature, God’s message of forgiveness and hope is rejected by most. Yet we must keep in mind that the apostle Paul said it would be a hard-fought battle until the end of time (2 Timothy 4:7).

Our battle is not earthly

Our battle is not one of insulting or assaulting in God’s name. Instead, we’re to live out His love toward others and even be willing to die for one another. [tweetable]While some follow destructive ideology and doctrines of demons, we follow Christ, who instructs us to fight earthly battles with heavenly weapons.[/tweetable]

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

Satan attempts to steal away the joy of Christ’s saving grace, casting shadows of unbelief throughout the world. As the lord of hell, he promotes spiritual deception and tries to destroy the testimony of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We fight from victory

Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection still stand as the greatest victory in human history.
Jesus explained the battle to Peter this way:

“Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” (Luke 22:31–32)

We aren’t alone in this battle.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

We fight this battle in the spirit, not the flesh.

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:14)

We fight this battle with a loving heart, not a vindictive heart.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21)

We fight this battle in the strength of the Holy Spirit.

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 4:6)

We recognize that only Jesus can deliver us from our spiritual darkness.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love…having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them. (Colossians 2:13,15)

His death, burial and resurrection still stand as the greatest victory in human history and the greatest news the world will ever hear. Through the completed work of Jesus on the cross, we have gained the spiritual victory, the salvation of our souls over sin and death.

The battle is the Lord’s, therefore…

The power and presence of the Holy Spirit within every Christian is greater than all the wickedness of this world. There is nothing in this world that can destroy our faith, hope, and love in Jesus Christ. [tweetable]Our victory is only by the Spirit of God, through the Word of God.[/tweetable]

“Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:47)

Remember, the battle belongs to the Lord! He’s guaranteed your future with Him in heaven and your fellowship with Him on earth. Therefore, as you anticipate His return:

  • let His truth rule your life
  • let His faithfulness protect your heart and emotions
  • let His vindication give you security
  • let His shield extinguish all the fiery lies
  • let His salvation be your joy
  • let His love be your confidence
  • let Him be glorified as you boldly share His saving message with others.
